HUNGARIAN FOLK MUSIC SCHOOL IN ÓBUDA
THE SCHOOL OF HUNGARIAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC
While the Hungarian Folk Music School was found 1991, the teaching of authentic folk music in Óbuda began in 1975. The activity of the school was greatly helped by the outstanding results of hungarian folk research and the "táncház" (lit. dance-house) movements.
The school, with nearly 300 students, is supported by the local government. The teachers are for the most part well-known masters of hungarian folk music who have learned from authentic performers. The teaching is supported by the school's large collection of recorded material.
The students study instrumental and vocal performing techniques from different regions of Hungary and the neighboring countries. They also learn folk customs and folk music theory. The school's students are frequent performer in competitions and festivals and on radio and TV. The school has many contacts across Europe.
